Meet Walter — the AI assistant that sets up WeTransform for you

Walter is WeTransform's AI assistant: describe what you need in plain language and it creates formats, configures exporters, fixes errors, and answers your questions — directly in the interface.

Written by Stéphane Jauffret

On the left side of your workspace lives Walter, WeTransform's AI assistant. Tell it what you need — in plain language, in any language — and it sets things up for you: formats, columns, rules, exporters, corrections. Anything you can do in the interface, you can now delegate.

🪄 What Walter can do

Walter has access to virtually everything in WeTransform. A non-exhaustive list:

  • 🎯 Create or modify a target format — columns, data types, constraints, value lists

  • ⚙️ Configure your workflow — exporters, sources, schedules

  • 🔄 Work on a transformation — run it, apply corrections, adjust rules

  • 👥 Manage customers — create them, adjust their access to formats

  • 💬 Answer your questions — about your account, your subscription, or how a feature works

💬 How to talk to it

There's no syntax to learn. Describe the outcome you want, the way you'd brief a colleague:

🟢 "Create an invoice target format with the usual columns"

🟢 "Add a mandatory weight column in kg to this format"

🟡 "Set up an email exporter on this format that sends the output to [email protected]"

🔴 "Create a target format for order imports with 12 columns, make SKU and quantity mandatory, add a value list for the carrier column, and set up an email exporter to [email protected]" — one message, the whole setup.

📍 Walter knows where you are. If you're on a target format and say "add a weight column", it understands which format you mean. For anything ambiguous, name the format or transformation explicitly — a precise brief always beats a vague one.

🎛️ Direct execution or confirmation — you decide

How Walter behaves follows how you phrase things. Ask it to do something, and it does it. Ask it to propose something — "show me what you'd create before doing it" — and it waits for your go-ahead.

⚠️ Walter's actions are real. There is no universal undo: reverting an action means performing the opposite one — a created format is removed by deleting it, which Walter can also do if you ask. For sensitive operations, ask for a proposal first, then confirm.

🔐 Who can use it

Walter is available to the users of your workspace, and it respects your roles and permissions: it can only do what the person talking to it is allowed to do. A user with a "Send files only" role can't have Walter create a target format.

🤖 Walter uses AI credits, like the other AI features. You can monitor your balance in your account settings.

🖥️ Showing, hiding, and resetting

The panel can be collapsed or reopened with the chat icon at the top of the left sidebar. Clear chat starts a fresh conversation — useful when you switch to an unrelated task and want a clean slate.
